What a great word!
Merriam-Webster Dictionary online defines it as "a lively Spanish or Spanish-American dance in triple time that is usually performed by a man and a woman to the accompaniment of guitar and castanets."
Ok, I don't care about any of that. Fandango has long been one of the polite *expletives* in my repertoire. I mean, honestly most expletives are nasty and so overly used, that no one pays attention anyhow. And frankly there is something about my upbringing that just won't allow my tongue to say some words.
So in college my roommates and I searched for alternative expletives, and we came up with Fandango! It's perfect! Although I will note you must say it with a British accent for it to have that expletive kind of zing. It should sound like "fawn-dane-go" with emphasis on the "fawn." (Those fandango British...they can say anything and it sounds beautiful.)
Of course fandango.com is where we buy movie tickets online to save us time standing in line. (We bought all our LOTR tickets this way, 3 years in a row.)
So no matter what, fandango is just a fun word. Feel free to use it. When you're excited, when you're mad, when you're having an all-around great time. It's very versatile.
