Well I am heading home today. Leaving at 9:30pm and arriving at 9:30am...uggg (to the travel not to the coming home).
Here are some parting pictures from Anchorage.
This is one of the glaciers in Chugach National Forest.
You might be wondering what the bars are by the road. The snow gets so bad in this area that this is how to tell if you are on the road. The end of the bar (hang over) is even with the white line on the road. Albert said that at times when he has driving in snow storms, he had to get out of he truck and feel with this feet where the end of the road was.
This valley is called an avalanche valley. The rubble at the bottom was the results (notice there is still snow from the avalanche).
I asked the reason behind the dead trees near the inlet. In 1964 there was an 9.2 earthquake near Anchorage. The result was a rush of seawater into the lower areas near the inlet, which destroyed the trees. There was also a gas station on this side of the road that was 1/2 buried now due to the quake.
Near Albert's house, where I stayed in Anchorage (one of the owners of the company), the city discovered a leak in the water pipes. When they started digging, they found these were the water pipes, which are now being replaced. They are oak planks surrounded by a wire to hold it together.
And me feeding Star, the reindeer, and Albert w/Star.
