Grace to Jacob when they couldn't find me around the house: "Jacob, I think Mom got aten by a zombie!"

Harrison's life with an older sister. Grace: "Ok, I'll wear the pink dress. Now what color dress would you like to wear, Harrison? And do you want to wear my tiara?"

Conversation with Jacob about school...
Mom: "What did you do today?"
Jacob: "We had computer station."
Mom: "What do you do at computer station?"
Jacob: "Get an education."

Grace's analysis of my sickness last week: "Mommy, it sounds like you  need to go to the doctor!"

Jacob: "Mom, what is Harrison's middle name?
Mom: "Robert. Why?"
Jacob: "B/c he's in trouble. He got into my markers....[running off]...HARRISON ROBERT!!!!!"

Grace's random but advantageous advice: "Little girls should never be reading a book outside when the bad sharks are coming to eat her."

And I had to buy a new package of *straight* straws b/c Grace threw out all the bendy straws b/c she declared they were "broken". I tried to explain, but she wasn't buying it.

Halloween fun

This year our theme was random, our costumes glowing and sparkly, the weather chilly, and our mood festive.

  Jacob = Darth Vader. You should know he objected to Vader, b/c he's a bad guy, and really, REALLy wanted to be "a good Jedi". But I found the costume at a resale shop for $2.49 and told him bad or not, Vader was CHEAP and therefore the perfect costume. Sometimes being the bad guy is just easier! Somehow Jacob acquiesed. His mask was very uncomfortable--who thinks kids are going to wear these masks anyhow?--so most of the night, he was a not-so-evil-looking Darth Vader with a stocking cap on b/c it was so cold. His costume had glowing red LED lights, and he carried a glowing sword instead of a lightsaber, per his own choice. Similar to the year as Batman when he did carry a lightsaber. Go figure!

  Grace = Tinkerbell. Complete w/ wings and glitter spray for her hair. We had to flip her wings around b/c they were unwieldy and kept falling, so all night, Grace reminded us that her wings were upside down and she couldn't fly, but at least they stayed on. Eventually it was so cold, we wished she could fly, but the wings were replaced w/ a winter coat. The pixie dust in her hair was the best!

  Harrison = Cute Lil' Pumpkin. A friend gave me this costume, and he fell in love with it And he was adorable, of course. He really didn't catch onto the concept of trick-or-treating, however, and when we would push out his hand holding his candy bucket for people to put more candy in, he would object loudly as though they were going to steal it! He also ate an undetermined number of dum-dums during the evening; every time we turned around he had another sucker in his mouth. I'm sure we'll be calling the dentist soon. :)

We had lots of fun, ran into some people we never see anymore, and now have a candy stash that should last us at least until Thursday, maybe Friday. See more pics starting here.

A love note from my son

Jacob's question to me, as I lay on the couch with the lovely hacking cough that has cursed me this week: "What's your fave color?" to which I responded, "Red." Five minutes later I was presented with this love note. He knew just what I needed! :)

Zombie

I need to get my scanner hooked up again b/c Jacob brings home these amazing papers from school that I'd love to share. He writes and illustrates stories. Today was a story about Halloween:

"I will be a zooby. It will frek your iball out of your hed and it is frecky."

Translation:

"I will be a zombie. It will freak your eyeball out of your head, and it is freaky."

Indeed!

New (frizzy) 'do

Since the mohawk bit the dust, Jacob has been asking what else he can do w/ his hair. I showed him pics of his curly days when he was an adorable toddler, but somehow that did not appeal to him. Maybe it was b/c I kept grabbing his cheeks and saying, "Aren't you so cute?!" So last night after bathtime, Daddy brushed Jacob's hair backwards and got this look. Jacob LOVED it! Is frizzy hair back in style now and no one told me? I spend good money on products that try to eliminate frizz...

 
BTW, mean Mom made him brush his hair before school. This child has no fun, can't you tell?

"Camp out"

Mom is gone for the weekend so it is daddy's fun time :)

We started the weekend by looking around at Target (after dropping mom off with her sis), Jacob found a Bionical he bought with his 'soccer' money.  Came home and watched "Monsters vs Aliens" while eating popcorn...it was OK but not one we will get (kids were some what bored...not on the same caliber as Pixar movies).  Then the kids wanted to 'camp out' on the couch.  So here they are:

That is a giant frosting cookie sandwich, in case you were wondering. He broke his old record of 6 cookies. This is what little boys live for!

First Impressions

We had our first parent-teacher conference w/ Jacob's 1st grade teacher, Mrs. G, this morning. My first impression of her was a little gruff back at the meet-and-greet when school began, but I've really come to like her and appreciate her. Our conference was short, and after showing us some papers she said, "I really don't have anything else to add. Your son is a joy to have in the classroom--you should be very proud of him! I wish all my students were this good. We would get a lot more done!" We were very glad to hear such praise, and thankful that Jacob has a reputation for being the kind of student teachers want to have.

A couple weeks ago at Grandparent's Day, Mrs. G told Jacob's grandparents that she was really nervous about him when she first met him--all b/c he had a mohawk. Yes, that infamous mohawk made his poor teacher nervous! She said every boy she's ever had with a hairdo like that was a real troublemaker in class, so she was expecting problems w/ Jacob right from the start. BUT she said she soon learned he's a great kid and hasn't had any problems w/ him. I laughed when I heard that story! You truly can't judge a book by its cover!
